Linear Drives - an introduction.

A requirement exists to linearly move items inside vacuum. This movement is normally small in distance and can be of high or low accuracy. It can range from the opening and closing of a shutter to moving electron optics nearer to a loaded sample.

VG Scienta has a wide range of products designed to overcome the problems associated with such simple translations.

The devices in this series consist of a linear motion probe that can be moved in relation to its mounting flange. The method of actuation used differs between the three ranges, each allows different accuracies and speeds of movement to be achieved. Edge welded UHV bellows are used in the construction of the drives.

There are only two types of probe mount across the whole range of the series. The size of mounting flange determines the type of mount present. All of the three series are bakeable as standard (see tables for temperatures). They can be baked at a maximum of 400 °C if further dismantling is undertaken.

There is a choice of either light or heavy duty probe mounts accross the linear drive series which is determined by the choice of mounting flange, either 34mm or 70mm Conflat. All of the versions are bakeable up to 250°C as standard, but can be baked to a maximum of 400°C if further dismantling is undertaken.
